Big Rigs 365 - Hurrican Ike Cripple Oil Platforms

Big Rigs 365 - - The ramifications of Hurricane Ike, that hit September 13th, still continue to this day. The 12-foot storm surges were not as big as one thought, but they did destroy over fifty oil platforms and crippled 32 more.
As of September 30th, the Associated Press reported that an estimated 13,000 barrels of oil were lost when the oil rigs were down. This is equivalent to 90 million cubic feet of gas each day.
Ike also threatened approximately 1,400 oil platforms (about one third) in the Gulf of Mexico. Damage in the Gulf is still being assessed.
On the bright side, Ike spared most of the platforms, and was not a disastrous as Hurricane Katrina.
